Did you know that everyday enough energy from the sun shines on the United States to supply all of the energy we need for one and a half years?

Scientist developed solar cells that use sunlight energy to generate electricity.  When the sunlight hits the cell, electrons move producing an electric current.  Individual solar cells are often used to power small appliances such as watches, lights, and even calculators.  Solar cells can be wired together creating solar panels which can provide heat and electricity for homes and businesses.  Solar panels can be built together creating large structures called arrays.  Solar energy is a growing source of alternative energy.  Sunlight provides an unlimited source of clean energy but collecting the sunlight is expensive and some what still inefficient.  Hopefully, solar energy technology will continue to improve thus creating more alternative energy choices for the world.
